Biography

Jessica Gath was born in 1975 in Torrington, Connecticut. She spent her childhood crafting with construction paper, recording and listening to her own radio shows, studying with the Nutmeg Ballet, and painting progressively-taller pictures with her watercolors on the walls of her home's entryway. After a move to Maine in her adolescence she turned to baking pies. Gath trained in Chinese Language and Cultural Studies at Tufts University and received her MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in the Studio for Interrelated Media.

Jessica Gath always looked forward to being grown-up so she could do what she wanted when she wanted. She feels very lucky to have, at last, attained that long-hoped-for state and chooses to spend her time in much the same ways she always has (only now she goes to bed and gets up later). Gath’s artwork is for everyone. Her portfolio includes two-dimensional works, interactive/participatory performances and events, ephemeral sculpture, installation, and books. Her ultimate goal is to make artwork that creates in those who experience it a feeling of love and being loved. Gath’s work is in many private collections across the United States, Europe and in Hong Kong. She lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts.
